Dr. Kathryn Moore

Advisor

Dr. Moore trained as a developmental biologist and spent over 20 years as a bench scientist, where her research centered around understanding the development of the nervous system, particularly the development of the retina, from early pre-cleavage stages to later retinal cell differentiation. Dr. Moore's areas of interest include developmental biology, transitions in medical education, faculty and student development, course evaluation, and assessment. She has created numerous videos for embryology and histology for her YouTube channel, "The Histology Wizard". She has won numerous awards for teaching including the Didactic Excellence Award and Distinguished Student Advocate Award from the University of Utah School of Dentistry, the Outstanding Educator of Health Science Professional Students from the Academy of Health Science Educators, and the Outstanding Pre-Clinical Instructor Award and University of Utah School of Medicine Leonard W. Jarcho, MD Distinguished Teaching Award. Her current roles include Faculty Peer Evaluation Director, Education and Quality Improvement Office, content expert for histology and embryology, Phase 1 Director for the upcoming MD curriculum in the UUSOM, Co-Director of the Students as Teachers longitudinal Pathway and the Director of Educational Scholarship courses for the Health Professions Master's Degree for the Academy of Health Science Educators at the University of Utah.
