Etymology:
Definition:
L. semi: “half” + L. membrāna: “skin or membrane that covers parts of the body”, so named because it has a flat tendon of origin.
A muscle in the back of the thigh; the most medial of the three hamstring muscles (meaning it is more to the inner of the thighs, not between the two others in one leg, which is the semitendinosus). It extends the hip joint and flexes the knee joint.
