Rheumatology

Etymology:

Gr. rheûma: “stream, flow, humour, discharge”, possibly so named because of the old medical theory of humorism, which suggested by Hippocrates and others that humors were the vital bodily fluids (blood, phlegm, yellow bile, and black bile), which could cause disease when out of balance

Definition:

A branch of medicine devoted to the diagnosis and therapy of immune-mediated disorders of the musculoskeletal system, soft tissues, autoimmune diseases, vasculitides, and inherited connective tissue disorders.
