Obturator
Etymology:
L. obtūrare: “to stop, block up”
Definition:
1) An object used to obstruct/block a hole (e.g., the obturator of a catheter is the removable shaft that plugs its lumen). As another example, the obturator is the tough, fibrous membrane that mostly occludes the obturator foramen, a large opening or fenestra in the anterior part of the hip bone.
