Neurotmesis
Etymology:
Neuro-: "nerves, the nervous system" (see neuron for further etymology) + Gr. tmêsis: “a cutting”
Definition:
A severe form of nerve injury in which both the axon and its encapsulating connective tissue lose their continuity (as if all layers of the nerve have been cut through).
