Mycetoma

Etymology:

Gr. múkēs: “mushroom, fungus” + -ōma*: “indicating process or action” *suffix added to verbs to form nouns indicating the result of a process or action; used in medical discourse to form the names of tumors or masses often due to cancerous processes

Definition:

Chronic subcutaneous inflammation caused by infection with certain bacteria or fungi. More specifically, it is a chronic infection in the skin caused by either bacteria (actinomycetoma) or fungi (eumycetoma), typically resulting in a triad of painless firm skin lumps, the formation of weeping sinuses, and a discharge that contains grains.
