Luteinizing hormone

Etymology:

Definition:

L. luteus: “yellow” + Gr. hormḗ: “rapid motion forwards, onrush, onset, assault, impulse to do a thing, effort”

A hormone, produced by anterior part of the pituitary gland, that stimulates or leads to the onset  of ovulation and the development of the corpus luteum, (which literally means yellow body) in female mammals, and the production of androgens by male mammals.
