Locus coeruleus
Etymology:
Definition:
L. locus: "place, spot (a specific location)" + L. caeruleus: "having the color of the sky; blue or greenish-blue; cerulean, azure", name is derived from its azure appearance in unstained brain tissue
A small nucleus located bilaterally in the rostral pons which contains norepinephrine and has projections to most of the brain.
