Lamina
Etymology:
Definition:
L. lāmina: “a thin piece of metal, wood, marble; a plate, leaf, layer”
The thin, almost leaf-like, portions of bone on the vertebra that extend from the pedicle to the spinous process that forms the posterior aspect of the vertebral foramen.
To imagine a better image, the lamina almost appears like the thin layers of wood making up the "roof" of the vertebral "house".
