Definition:
Gr. abúrinthos: “a maze”
A complex, maze-like structure in the inner ear which contains the organs of hearing and balance. It consists of bony cavities (the bony labyrinth) filled with fluid and lined with sensitive membranes (the membranous labyrinth).
