Insulin

Etymology:

L. īnsula: “island,” (named for the islets of Langerhans, where insulin is produced) + L.‎ -in.

Definition:

A polypeptide hormone that regulates carbohydrate metabolism and is important for intake of glucose into cells. It is synthesized in the islets of Langerhans of the pancreas which look like islands of cells.
