Insidious onset
Etymology:
L. īnsidiae: “a lying in wait, an ambush, artifice, stratagem”
Definition:
Producing harm in a stealthy, often gradual, manner (hence, the etymology, "a lying in wait"). Injuries are "insidious" when the links between their causes and symptoms are largely unknown.
