Injection

Etymology:

L. iniectio from inicio from in: “in, at, on; into, onto” +‎ iaciō: “throw, hurl”

Definition:

1) Something injected or "thrown" subcutaneously, intravenously, or intramuscularly by use of a syringe and a needle.


2) Congestion (of a body part, with blood or other fluid), such as hyperemia (as if fluid is "thrown into" a body part) For example, conjunctival injection.
