Hypnopompic

Etymology:

Gr. hupnōtikós: “inclined to sleep, putting to sleep, sleepy” + Gr. pompḗ: “a sending, a solemn procession, pomp”, referring to the state of consciousness "sending" you from sleep to being awake

Definition:

Relating to the state of consciousness before becoming completely awake. Used to describe hallucinations that occur while waking from sleep. More specifically, the hypnopompic state is the state of consciousness leading out of sleep, a term coined by the psychical researcher Frederic Myers. Its mirror is the hypnagogic state at sleep onset; though often conflated, the two states are not identical and have a different phenomenological character.
