Hippocampus

Etymology:

L. hippocampus from Gr. híppos: “horse” + Gr.‎ kámpos: “sea-monster”

Definition:

A part of the brain located inside the temporal lobe, consisting mainly of grey matter. It is a component of the limbic system and plays a role in memory and emotion. On gross observation, the hippocampus looks like a seahorse, and was thought to be named such because of this.
