Ecthyma
Etymology:
Gr. ekthuein: "to break out"
Definition:
An ulcerative pyoderma of the skin, caused by bacteria (e.g., Group A Streptococcus) (perhaps so called because the bacteria is "breaking out" of the skin). Not to be confused with ecythyma gangrenosum, which is associated with pseudomonal bacteremia.
