Dermatofibroma

Etymology:
Definition:

Gr. dérma: “skin” + L. fibra: “fiber” + Gr. -ōma*: “indicating process or action” *suffix added to verbs to form nouns indicating the result of a process or action; used in medical discourse to form the names of tumors or masses

Also called a benign fibrous histiocytomas, a dermatofibroma is a benign nodule in the skin, typically on the legs, elbows or chest of an adult. More specifically, they are hard (this consistency perhaps has connotations to "fiber") solitary slow-growing papules (rounded bumps/masses) that appear in a variety of colours, usually brownish to tan. They are often elevated or pedunculated. A dermatofibroma is associated with the dimple sign; by applying lateral pressure, there is a central depression of the dermatofibroma.
