Cornea
Etymology:
Definition:
L. cornea tela: “horny tissue”, from L. cornu: “horn”, so named because the consistency of a cornea is likened to the dense consistency of the material of which a horn is composed of.
The transparent layer making up the outermost front part of the eye, covering the iris, pupil, and anterior chamber.
Additionally, when looking at an axial cross section of the eye, the cornea is dome-shaped—almost projecting like a horn.
