Chancre
Etymology:
Definition:
Borrowed from French chancre (“cancer”), cognate to canker and cancer. From L. cancer: “crab”, by metathesis from Gr. karkínos: “crab; ulcer; cancer”.
Skin lesion, usually a painless ulcer, sometimes associated with certain contagious diseases such as syphilis (don't confuse with a painful chancroid).
