Etymology:
L. balanus: “glans” (referring to glans penis), from Gr. bálanos: "acorn", so named for its shape resemblance + Gr. pósthē: “penis; foreskin” + Gr. -itis: "disease characterized by inflammation", see "-itis" entry for full etymology
Definition:
An inflammation of the glans penis and the prepuce (i.e. foreskin).
