Babinski reflex

Etymology:

Named after French neurologist, Joseph Babinski who first described the reflex in 1896.

Definition:

An abnormal plantar reflex in which the toes move upwards (wherein the normal response should have the toes curling downwards), indicative of motor neuron damage. It is worth noting that the Babinski reflex is a normal finding in chidren up to 2 years of age.
