Ampulla

Etymology:

L. ampulla: "globular bottle with a narrow neck"

Definition:

The dilated end of a duct resembling a globular bottle with a narrow neck found in various areas of human anatomy (i.e. the ampulla of Vater in the pancreas, the ampulla of a Fallopian tube, the ampullae at the end of the semicircular canals in the inner ear, etc.).
