Afferent
Etymology:
L. ad: "to, toward" + L. ferre: "to carry"
Definition:
A structure (e.g. nerve, neuron) that carries its contents towards a different structure, which is the point of reference (e.g. the afferent nerve carries stimuli toward the central nervous system | the afferent glomerular capillary carries blood toward the glomeruli of the kidneys).
