Adjuvant

Etymology:

L. adiuvāre: "to help"

Definition:

Something that enhances or helps improve the effectiveness of a medical treatment; a supplementary treatment. It is often used in cancer therapy parlance to describe therapy preceding (neoadjuvant) or following (adjuvant) a surgical procedure.
