Acral

Etymology:

Gr. ákros: “highest, at the extremity”

Definition:

Pertaining to the peripheral or highest aspect of body parts, such as toes and fingers. 


1) e.g. Acral melanoma is a type of skin cancer that occurs on fingers, palms, soles, and nail beds. 


2) e.g. Acral distribution of a dermatosis means it affects distal portions of limbs (hand, foot) and head (ears, nose).
