Abutment
Etymology:
L. abuttare and Old French abuter, aboter, abouter: “to touch at one end, to come to an end, aim, reach”, so named because the abutment is the ending piece of an implant that connects to the dental prosthesis
Definition:
The connecting piece that lies at the end of a dental implant (which looks like a screw) and dental prosthesis (artificial tooth).
