Abscess

Etymology:

L. abscessus: “a going away; gathering of humors, abscess”. The etymology is suggested to have originally come from the Greek apostēma: "a drawing off", as of "bad humors"—apostēma later became the Latin abscessus, both refering to a collection of pus anywhere in the body.

Definition:

A cavity caused by tissue destruction, usually because of infection, filled with pus and surrounded by inflamed tissue. In other words, a gathering of dead tissue, cells, and bacteria.
